It was that sort of motionless, fragility that was so attractive about the lake that Dylan enjoyed the most. Crystalline, elegant. And the steady disturbance that crossed the surface when a single drop fell from the quenched leaves above him. That was his only weakness. Anything like that in nature, something so basic yet at the same time so vast. He could easily find it in himself to appreciate what this world could give him.
Dylan could live in a moment for an eternity, the smell of the moist earth, the feel of the soaked bark of the tree he sat against, the smell you could pick up after blankets of rain finished hitting the ground. Every scene he had picked up in nature he stored, so he could relive it when life wasn't tangible enough for him. When he had nurses holding his hair back when he got sick after chemo, he'd be imagining himself in a climbing tree he used to play in as a kid. The beautiful spring breeze and the rustling of the leaves. He would often have many a school mate teasing him for this, but it was the hard truth: he liked to escape in any way possible from his real situation.

There was a restlessness in Emilia's bone as she sat idly in the Gryffindor Common Room. She was attempting to finishing up her Care of Magical Creatures homework, but she just couldn't force herself to go through with it. Not that she didn't know what she was doing, she knew the answer, but she was just so antsy. Bouncing her leg gently she happened to glance idea the window. It looked like the weather had finally broke, and outside just looked so appealing. Smirking, she threw her quill down, and wrapped up her parchment. Rising quickly from her chair she gather her things, and ran up the stairs to her domitory. She only tripped once on the stairs, and replaced her school things with her cloak.
She didn't stop running until she reach the tranquil grounds. Letting the door slam behind her she walked briskly towards her favorite place, the Lake. As long as she could recall the Lake has always lured her to it, maybe it was the peaceful nature of the Lake or just the tranquility it created. Either way, it was her favorite place, and she felt as if she had neglected it long enough. Not paying attention to her surroundings, Emilia didn't notice the abnormally large tree root jutting up from the ground just a few paces in front of her. It was only until she felt her foot already make contact with the root that she noticed it's presence. "ARGHHHHHH!" was the only thing Emilia could get out before she went sprawling head first into the lake.

[white]"Another fine day to go outside and read," Anria said to herself contentedly. She took her wand and book with her as well as a cloak. Even if the sky was clear, nighttime was getting chillier. She would also need her wand to read once it got dark. The book for the day was a muggle book about aliens. Anria loved the possibility of life on other planets. She stepped out of her common room and down the moving stairs reveling in what the next chapter of her book might hold. She was in such deep thought that she almost missed the correct exit for the moving stairs. If it wasn't for her muscle memory of constantly going to the lake, this girl would get lost more times than she chews.
She got outside and walked through the forrest to the lake. Finally, when she was there she was woken up from her dreams of lasers and hovercrafts by someone screaming. She snapped her head up just in time to a Hufflepuff boy near the lake, and Emilia falling on the surface of the water. Anria shook her head. It was just like Emilia to trip and fall into a dangerous situation. She was too far away to stop her from falling into the dangerous murkiness. Anria thought, "We don't need aliens; we have Emilia.[/white]

Dylan was awoken from his trance-like state by a loud scream and a wave of water just reaching his shoes. He took a second to register what had happened, and when he finally made sense of the fact that he had seen a girl plunge head-first into the lake, he quickly shed his t-shirt and jumped in after her.
Though he was never the brave type, hence the sorting hat putting him into Hufflepuff house, he could definitely pull all the courage in the world if it came to women. That didn't necessarily mean he could ask a girl out, no, but to do something to help a girl, that was all the satisfaction he needed, whether she thanked him afterward or not. That was always his motive, to be the gentleman in a girl's life.
Once he felt the water envelop his entire body, he popped back up to the surface, wiping the liquid from his face. He spotted what looked like the girl's body and swam over to her, grabbing her by the waist, and made his way back to the water's edge where he laid her down in the grass before pulling himself out as well.
Kneeling down next to the girl's body, he whispered, "Are you okay, miss?" pulling a lock of soaked hair back from her face. He looked around for his abandoned t-shirt and handed it to her. Though he didn't even think of having to wear it later, he wouldn't care anyway. A soaked t-shirt was vastly less important than a pretty girl.

Before she could catch her breath, Emilia plunged into the icy, cold water. The cold numbed her to the core, and she found it hard to distinguish where the surface of the water was, and the bottom. No matter how many times she tried to kick, she felt like she was getting no where. The cold water was just too much for her frail body. Opening her eyes all she could see was darkness with the occasional flicker of light. It was towards that flicker of light that Emilia tried to swim towards, but it was always just out of her reach. It was then she felt an intense burning sensation in her chest which only caused her to frantically kick towards what she thought to be was the surface.
The burning sensation only increased within her chest as the flicker of light started to die out. Emilia finally realized that she was drowning. In her delusion Emilia thought, "Out of all the things to kill me, the Lake. Who would have thought? Boy, Voldemort is going to be super pissed when he finds out I managed to drown myself. Oh well, at least he won't get the pleasure of killing me. Despite the pain in her chest, Emilia smiled. This was almost a peaceful way to die, but it was all too soon. How could she leave every one behind? She couldn't, she had to fight, but the darkness was threatening to envelope her. Fighting back the darkness she heard a whooshing sound in her ears, and she knew that it was all coming to an end.
It was then felt someone grab her around the waist, dragging her to the surface. Trying to concentrate to fend off the darkness she felt herself finally break of the surface of the water. Gasping for breath she felt the pain within her chest reside, and the blackness to subside. Taking such a deep breath caused her body to convulse, and she started coughing. The fits of coughing only made her gasp for air, and then start the process all over again. All that Emilia focused on was breathing, breathing and spewing out Lake water from her lungs.
She felt herself being gently laid down on the grass, her coughing fit finally starting to subside. Breathing as normally as she could Emilia was conscious of the boy who saved her from an untimely death. She couldn't exactly see his features well for her hair was plastered across her face, and it was only until he gently pulled her hair away from her face that she noticed a Hufflepuff boy staring back at her. His words sounded far away yet, but she thought he heard her ask if she was alright. Gazing up at him with her bright aquamarine eyes she gasped, "I think..." It was those two words that caused her to go into another coughing fit with some more Lake water spew from her tiny frame. Her throat was on fire now, and she gently took the t-shirt from this unknown savior. Finding her voice she whispered, "Thank you..."

[white]Anria's brain finally caught up with her. She saw the hufflepuff take off his shirt and dive into the water and not surface until, it seemed to Anria, forever later. He brought her out and Emilia started spewing large amounts of water "You'd think she swallowed the whole lake with all the water that's coming out of her." Anria thought. That was when Anria realized that a friend of hers almost died right in front of her eyes. She sprinted across the sand toward the wheezing form of Emilia and the unknown hufflepuff.
She knelt down next to Emilia and waved her hands frantically above her resting body. "Oh my gosh Emilia! You almost died. Are you ok? Hell, of course you're not ok. You almost died, hello. We need to get you to the infirmary. Are you thirsty? You want some water. Oh, no. I'm stupid. You almost drowned; how could you possibly want water right after that? Don't answer that. Are you in pain? Don't answer that either. That was stupid." Anria ranted in one breath. She always did this when she was nervous or scared. The reason she stopped talking a mile a minute was not only because she ran out of breath but also because realized that she and Emilia were not the only ones there and that infact the hufflepuff had heard everything she just said. This caused her to blush and look to see his reaction of her.
Now that she was closer, Anria saw a few more details about the male. He was definitely handsome, she concurred. He had shaggy brown hair and beautiful eyes that held compassion in its depths. She also saw his creamy sculpted abdomen left nothing to the imagination. She estimated him to be around a year or so older than her. He seemed a good enough character. His saving Emilia's life also put him on Anria's 'good people to hang out' with list.
Shaking herself out of yet another reverie, Anria stuttered. "H-hi there. I'm A-Anria Spirwa."[/white]

Throughout Emilia's intense coughing fit, Dylan's nervousness grew. Though he was relieved that she was, sort of, breathing. He relaxed back down on the grass as the last of the water in her lungs came up and she whispered "Thank you" up at him. He gave her a relieved grin.
"The pleasure's all mine." He broke eye contact with her to look over to the Gryffindor girl who had joined them in the throws of her anxiety. Dylan couldn't help but to silently chuckle as she rambled. He could sense the worry in her voice though, which made his feat evem more satisfying.
"H-hi there. I'm A-Anria Spirwa." Dylan gave her a smile and reached out for the girl's hand, kissing it gently. "Dylan. Pleased to meet you." Of course, he left out his last name purposefully. He never introduced himself with his full name in fear that his last name would be recognized. He was a little more than ashamed of his family roots.
He let go of her hand to look down at a calmer Emilia. "And you?"

It was when Emilia finally looked up that she realized that she had never talked to this Hufflepuff boy, and didn't even know his name. This was when she felt a faint blush start to creep upon her alabaster skin, he was after all sitting in front of her with his shirt off, a shirt she was clutching in his hand. This fact made her snicker. Maybe I should almost drown more often. I can get boys to take off their shirts for me, she mused. She couldn't help but to take a peek, and it was well worth it she deemed after looking over his sculpted torso. She felt the heat rise to her face now, and she even twitched from her embarrassment.
Out of no where a pair of hands began to dance in front of her face, and she let out of yelp of surprise. She wasn't expecting anyone else to run up, and it had scared her since she was too busy to thinking of the half naked boy beside her. Then she saw the face that accompanied those frantic hands, Anria. She started shooting off a million questions a minute which caused Emilia to groan. "I'm fine Anria, call down. You're going to have a stroke with the way your eyes are popping out of your head. Although I never knew that was possible until now." She gave the girl a quizzical look, especially when she stuttered an introduction to the mystery Hufflepuff.
Listening to the stuttering mess Anria was all of a sudden, Emilia was able to find out the name of her savior, Dylan. She smiled, Well that's one mystery solved for the day. She watched as he kissed Anria's hand, and her smile grew. This boy sure is something. Saves a girl he doesn't even know, and then kisses the hand of the other. What century is this again? He then turned her attention to her prompting her for her name. "I'm Emilia, Emilia Silverstien. It's really nice to meet you. Actually, I can't thank you enough from saving me from my accident prone self." She sat up gently, her body tired from what happened, and shuddered. She had to look like a drowned rat which figures since a gorgeous boy was sitting on front of her. What a life I lead...

[white] Anria blushed like mad when Emilia told her to calm down and stop her ranting. She was worried about her friend which made her rant, but then there was a shirtless boy in front of her which made her nervous. As Emilia playfully scolded her, a blush crept unto Anria's cheeks. She didn't say anything in return but tried to laugh a little when Emilia described her eyes. It didn't work; it came out more as a cough. Then, to make matters worse, the boy named Dylan introduced himself. He kissed her! Technically, Anria thought, because it was just her hand. Still, it counted in her book. When he laid his lips on her hand, her heartbeat increased. Each thump echoed in her ears so loudly she was surprised neither of the two called her out on it. "Oh my lordie!", Anria thought, "His accent is so hot." She paid attention to the outside world before she started drooling. However, this did not stop her from blushing even more. It was her fourth year in this school and she was still not accustomed to being around guys that are not related to her by blood. Anria tried to casually pull her long, black hair to the front of her torso to try and help hide her blush. It didn't exactly work because she was wearing a clip that made the upper half of her hair bunch at the back of her head. Unsuccessful, she sighed and tried to help Emilia while she was trying to get up.
"Uh, Emilia... did you hit your head?" Anria asked to see if the girl could suffer from a concussion. She knew from the look on Dylan's face that he was way more attentive of Emilia's words and reactions than her own. "We can just add him to the list." Anria thought. Every guy she and Emilia were acquainted with seemed to fall for her almost instantly. Anria didn't know why, but she thought it had to do with the fact that she was older, mature, and while she was clumsy as hell she still tried to fight for what seemed right. Unlike Anria who was too shy to even hold up conversation let alone make it interesting and who would rather stay in the shadows than inside the drama pit. It did seem like Anria was bitter about this situation, but really she preferred them liking Emilia instead of her. She wouldn't know what to do with the attention. She did like to observe how each boy reacted to her. It was sort of an experiment of sorts to record their reactions in her mind. This boy was different. Most were either cocky or extremely flattering. Dylan seemed... gentlemanly. His type of flattery seemed real not forced. She wanted to direct some conversation towards him, but could not think of anything worth talking about. She didn't really know him, and it would be weird to strike up a conversation of interests while there was someone who almost died in between them. So, she stayed quiet and prayed for someone to speak.[/white]

Dylan smiled. He did notice even both the girls blushing, but found no wrong in it, for if he let his own concentration down, he'd probably be doing the same. Much of his life he didn't really even live to the fullest, though he did "stop and smell the flowers" a little more often than most. He had perfected his control over his emotions enough that he could refrain from showing a timid side through his own defenses.
"I'm Emilia, Emilia Silverstien. It's really nice to meet you. Actually, I can't thank you enough from saving me from my accident prone self." He chuckled softly. "So these things have happened before?" he joked. Dylan's nerves came back as he watched her sit up with a bit of difficulty.
"You're soaking. You're free to use that as a towel," he suggested, looking toward his t-shirt in her hand. "This isn't the weather to be soaked like that." His concern would be like that for most girls, though he did have a sort of fondness already for this girl, Emilia. Pretty and had sort of a humor to her. He could only imagine, if she described herself as accident-prone, that she had been in situations like this before. The least he could do was attempt to make it a little less awkward.
