( FULL NAME ) : Rainflower Blossomtail[/blockquote]
( NICKNAMES ) : Goes by Rain when among humans. Her second name, Blossomtail, has no shortened form
( SEX ) : female
( BLOOD TYPE ) : Faun, a rare bird of her kind to be gifted in magic. In truth she is a muggle-born of sorts being that neither of her family are wizards.
( AGE & DOB ) : Unknown, fauns do not track their ages or their day of births. (humans have produced the theory that a faun’s age is seen in their horns in the number of rings around it much like a tree. This however cannot be true as a faun’s horns only begin to grow during the adolescent years and thus there is no possible way to account for the years before) She knows only that she was born many, many years ago in the months when nights were long and winds were cold and fierce.
( PROFFESION ) : teacher: Professor of astronomy and divination.
( YEAR ) : not a student
( HOUSE ) : no ‘offical’ magical training as a kid. Sorted into the house of Ravenclaw upon entering Hogwarts as a professor.
( AFFILIATION ) : neutral, content to watch the fates alter the course at their will
( SEXUAL ORIENTATION ) : heterosexual,
( WAND ) :A wand of simple design, smaller than most being only 7 3/7” made from dogwood. It’s core is a unicorn’s hair donated from the mane of Glimmerstar.

( LIKES ) :[/blockquote]
- music - being of the wooded races she, like many generations before her, has a love for music. This means both music made by man, through song and instrument, as well as nature’s music. The more common nature’s music is found simply by leaving the world at peace and can be heard in the falling droplets of a waterfall or the leaves rustling in the wind.
- Starlight – even as a young kid Rainflower has always been fascinated by the stars, or ‘Nightfires’ as her people called them, as well as the stories told through them. She had also found it remarkable how the crossing paths of stars foretold events that had yet to come.
- Animals – Perhaps it is a part of her nature being one of the wooded races that she caries a love for all beasts. Whether it be the smallest of insects on the floor or the greatest of dragons, all are to be treated as equals and friends in her mind.
( DISLIKES ) :
- stone – There’s something about stone floors she just doesn’t like. It just doesn’t feel right against her hooves. So, to help correct that her classroom floor is coated with an inch-thick layer of soil.
- Alcohol – This is one of the few things humans have created that she fails to understand. Of course she’s tried the stuff, but finds it extremely bitter and the taste horrid, not to mention the slight burn when it passes the throat. The other wizards can have their fire whiskey and butter beer when they have their days off. She’s going to stick with her water and teas.
( STRENGTHS ) :
- Swift – a gift granted to her simply by being born of her species Rainflower can become incredibly fast if the need be. This gift has saved her many times both when faced with enemies and natural disaster.
- herbology – because of her lifetime in the forest she carries a great knowledge of plants and their uses. This knowledge is, however, restricted to only those that are native to the forbidden forest.
- hard-headed – while a doe’s horns are curled against their head and a buck’s are curled outward for fighting both are made with an incredibly strong skull. While she’s pretty sure she’s not going to be head-butting students when they misbehave (no matter how she wants to) if they bring in some sort of unruly pet . . . well, lets just not bring any of those shall we?
( WEAKNESSES ) :
- indecisive – Rainflower is not a decision maker by any means. If a problem arises she is more likely to use a solution someone else has used to the same, if not similar problem, regardless of whether or not the outcome was favorable before. In the event where this is not an option she would rather either wait for someone to give her the answer or meditate until the answer pops into her head.
- weak in magic – because of her less than traditional upbringing she was not necessarily schooled in the way of magic as most of the other students were. Because of this she tends to either not use spells at all or, when she does, forget the words or mispronounce them making the wrong spell entirely
- flighty – in the event of a disaster her instinct is to run. No exceptions. This tends to go against the concept of ‘protect the students’ whenever something like that would be needed. If a dragon starts tearing apart the dining hall she’s probably not going to take out her wand and bravely fight alongside the other professors while the students escape. She’s probably going to be out of the building before they even reach the doors.
( BOGGART ) : Fire, the result of both an animal instinct and an incident as a kid.
( PATRONUS ) : Goat, and a rather noisy one (this she does not actually know for herself as she has never found the need to ever cast the patronus charm in her life)
( PET PEEVES ) :
- complaints about the fur – yes, it’s fur. And yes, it sheds. Quite a lot in the beginning of the school year for that matter, even more when spring comes. Wash your robes and stop complaining.
- those ‘too good’ for divination – she knows the art is hard, she’s not much of a seer as well. She also knows that it doesn’t always make sense and that what the reader read isn’t always what ends up happening. She gets it. But this is an actual class and you do have to take it seriously or you don’t pass. Stop whining like a kid and read your tea leaves.
- really, really bad singers – as a lover of the musical arts song is a thing very close to her heart and she enjoys it wherever she finds it whether it be in a student or a passing bird. There is a limit to where someone should be allowed to sing though because the song stops being an expression of emotion and turns into a form of torture for everyone else around you. If you must express yourself try, maybe, literature or art. Something less vocal.
( PERSONALITY ) :
Curious – Rainflower is among the first to stick her head in an unknown hole. It is this trait that led to both her learning of the stars and brought her to Hogwarts to begin with. Since being in the school her curiosity has not faded and there are many new hallways and passageways she intends to explore.
outgoing – There is always a new friend to make. Because of this there are few people she does not like, and those she doesn’t are usually rotten little hornless toads to begin with.
honest – A rare bird in today’s society but Rainflower has never spoken a lie in her life. This is both a blessing and a curse for everyone knows she is going to tell the truth, but at the same time she’s not going to withhold it either and tends to be very blunt. If you’ve studied for 64 hours the day before a test and still failed she’s not going to say you did your best and should try better next time. She’ll tell you your study methods are fit for a troll and a house elf with a brain the size of a pixie’s must have taught it to you.
artistic – everything that happens in the world can be tied to some song or piece of music or play or artwork or any of the hundreds of forms of art in the world. Rainflower is among the many who would make these connections, comparing students, their behavior, and things she finds, to notable works in the arts. But, for the most part many of her comparisons are from the faun’s culture so a student isn’t likely to know them.
childish – through a combination of not being accustomed to decisions standard for a mature adult and simply because she is, in her nature, naive she behaves mostly in a way most see as childish. She is not above throwing small fits or complaining excessively. Along with her inability to mentally filter her thoughts and control what she says Rainflower as a whole can sometimes seem like being around a human only 6 to 10 years old.

( HAIR ) :Rainflower’s hair is a pale golden color, unique to her kind where most are brown, black, or white. The hair itself is long, reaching far past her shoulders, and naturally waved. The fur of her goat-like legs bears the same shade as well and is usually fairly short in length.
( EYES ) : Her eyes are much more common being a simple brown color.
( FACIAL STRUCTURE ) : From the edges of her forehead her horns sprout, fully formed in her mature age. Unlike the male fauns, whose horns curl up and outward to better butt their opponents, hers curl back, close to the side of her head and downward, wrapping close to her ears.
( BODY STRUCTURE ) : Most fauns are not necessarily tall and she is no exception finding her height more matched by first or second years and, in turn, being dwarfed in size compared to seventh years. For the most part she is fairly thin, almost all muscle being devoted to her legs.
( ATTIRE ) : Rainflower tends to try to remain as normal among humans as she can. In the forest she and the other fauns wore nothing at all but the fur on their legs and the hair around their horns. Though she does not completely understand it she does know that humans find such a thing repulsive and resorts to their ways while around them. With little knowledge of their styles and customs she normally wears what is given to her which is, in this case, school robes. If not that then she does have a few pairs of skirts – never pants – and a few loose shirts she could just throw on.
( PLAY-BY ) : not sure if there is one or I just don’t understand what a play-by is completely . . .

( PARENTS ) : Father: Stonedust Blossomtail – unusually tall faun with brown-grey fur, Mother: Lillysong Blossomtail (Previously Silverfount) – golden furred faun female.[/blockquote]
Niether were fauns of great prestige or consequence. They were musicians, artists, and dancers who never ventured beyond the forest they were born in and friends with all creatures.
( SIBLINGS ) : Firehoof Blossomtail – younger brother by many years. Left at home as Rainflower ventured off to learn magic.
( OTHERS ) : Though they are not offical members of her family through blood Rainflower has three friends she cares for as if they were her brothers. The first is Glimmerstar, a massive unicorn with a long pearl horn just inches longer than three feet in length. The second is a grey and brown pelted centaur named Voltain who had taught her astronomy and divintation through the stars. The last is Darkwing, a raven, who rarely says much more than a caw every once in a while, but he likes to perch on her shoulder and listen to everything with her.
( HISTORY ) :
Rainflower was born in the Forbidden Forest to Stonedust and Lillysong Blossomtail who were life-mates. As a kid she learned to dance and make instruments from wood and reed and stone and did so often. She was an adventurous kid, often venturing away from the older bucks and does to explore. In her explorations she made many friends, among them being the centaurs and the unicorns as well as a host of other creatures native to the Forbidden Forest.
In the years before she grew her horns Rainflower first showed her gift for magic. The source was unknown (though it was said to be a careless wizard) a spark fell to the forest floor igniting it as the months had been dry. The fire spread and the heard fled madly. As she ran her hoof caught in a rabbit’s hole. Though she tried to free herself her leg simply refused to move and she did her best to curl into a ball, bleating for help the whole while. The fire spread and faded and while no one came to her rescue the fire still had not touched or burned her. When the fire finally faded away the heard knew she had magic in her that had allowed her to live.
When she first began to get her horns she became good friends with a unicorn called Glimmerstar, a magnificent beast at his worst. The two ran under starlight and drank beside a crystal clear pool he had purified with his horn. There was even a few times when he had allowed her to ride him, her legs dangling off one side of him as she played one of her instruments, usually the pan flute. Also among her friends was the centaur, Voltain, who first introduced to her the ways of the stars and the stories told through them. It was he who taught her the first lessons in astronomy and divination and she returned for more lessons for many, many years until he had run out of stories to tell and their lessons began to consist of debates over the many signs they read and their true meanings.
Now a fully mature doe and her horns fully curled Rainflower was supposed to be spending her time singing and dancing to attract a mate for herself. This she refused busying her time with stars and strangers. These years had been the first she discovered there was an edge to the seemingly endless forest and beyond it laid a great den of stone and walking around it were upright creatures that had no fur on their legs or hooves. In her fascination of them she approached and found them to be humans that called themselves wizards, users of magic.
The process of her being involved in the wizarding world was a long and, at times, confusing one. She knew that these humans used magic, the kind that had saved her from the fire as a kid, and because of that she was interested in learning more of this. She was given a wand, the core of it plucked from the mane of her unicorn friend, and taught a few of the most basic of spells. As the time passed she found herself spending more time among the humans than she did her own herd, most of her time being devoted to the Care of Magical Creatures professor and the Divination professor. There was also a small amount of time spend among the greenhouse as well.
When the time came for the Care of Magical Creatures professor to leave the school for other pursuits Rainflower applied hoping to get the job for herself, but did not get the position. She was not told for certain why, but believed it was because the other applicants had knowledge of beasts that were not based only in woodlands. When the Divinations professor finally retired she applied once more and this time her efforts produced results.
As an instructor of Divination and Astronomy she devotes most of her passion to the second of the two as it is the one she has most skill for. Her divination is taught much like the centaur who trained her and is done through the observation of stars (she teaches the other methods as well but less enthusastically) so most often her class, when not instructing on the other methods, is held at night, usually on a new moon when the stars are brightest.

( ALIAS ) : The character’s name will do just fine, but if you must call me something then Fire will fill in nicely.[/blockquote]
( AGE ) : can I refuse this one?
( EXPERIENCE ) : oooohhhhh . . . somewhere around 6 to 8 years. Time just passes so fast now . . .
( CONTACT INFO ) : I’d prefer PM for most things, but if you must e-mail me then you have that address.
( HOW'D YOU FIND US? ) : Referred here by a friend. Don’t know who she is on the site though (She refuses to disclose)
( ROLEPLAY EXAMPLE ) :'Professor Blossomtail' the plaque said. A few times Rainflower read it, not entirely convinced what she read was true. She was actually a professor now, the thing all humans longed to become one day. Not only that but she was able to do it in the greatest of schools and in one of her most dear of subjects: Astrology.
Finally putting the plaque on the center of the desk that was now hers she took a few steps to the open window. Her hooves clicked rythmically against the stone of the floor. Before her stretched the horizion, still brightening with every passing moment as the sun rose higher in the trees. Clouds formed and stretched across the sky, blocking most of the blue light and foretelling of rain in the east.
Through her window a bird flew, wings black as night, and perched on her shoulders. It opened its beak and let loose a caw, then said nothing only looking at her through one ebony black eye. "Alright Darkwing," She told it stroking its wing, "I'll go back to the woods, but only for a little while ok. I'm a teacher now and I have to get this class ready before the man kids get here. Starting with getting rid of this floor" It said nothing as she kicked at the floor with the tip of her hoof.
Before she left Rainflower took an earthen bowl and departed. She descended the long staircase, still a bit clumsy in the walk down as she always was, and exited the castle. Darkwing stayed on her shoulder listening to her hum to a song with no particular theme. She stopped at the edge of the forest, filled the bowl with soil, then returned to the tower. Once in the classroom she inverted the bowl, letting the dirt fall into a small mound on the floor that looked tiny compared to the size of the room. With a groan about how long this would take and turned and went back outside.
Many, many, many days passed, seamlessly forming into weeks before the stone had completly become hidden. Near her desk she had made a slightly larger pile of loose soil and decorated it with a few soft leaves. She wished she could let flowers actually grow here, but with the soil being so thin and there being only stone below it she doubted such a thing were possible. But she could almost imagine a rosebush in one corner and a nice beech tree in another. Still the room itself was nice.
She placed her hands on the ground and stretched her legs out behind her before laying down on the leaves she had brought. She ran her hand over her legs, the first thin hairs falling out as her pelt prepared itself for fall. The classroom looked, and felt, much better than when she first walked in and now she could focus on other things like: how she was actually going to teach this class.
